Expanding the Center documents the Walker Art Center’s six-year expansion process, encompassing not only the architecture, but also the overall experience planning of the institution and the thinking behind its collections and various artistic programs. Richly illustrated and organized thematically — rather than chronologically — the book contains sections about Herzog & de Meuron's architectural design process, the building's construction, the development of new interactive technologies, civic engagement, and experience design. Images of the completed building — from photographers Floto + Warner, Roland Halbe, and Paul Warchol — are dispersed throughout the book, also arranged by themes — such as “Framing,” “Pattering,” and “Unveiling.”
