New Tactics in Human Rights is a project of The Center for Victims of Torture. Designed during my tenure at MCAD DesignWorks, this workbook compiles hundreds of writings, stories, ideas, and tactics — from various human rights organizations around the world — into an easy-to-use reference guide for practitioners and activists. Each tactic is contained on one page, allowing end-users to easily photocopy and distribute a single entry. Indexical data included on the footer of each page allows the user to quickly browse for related entries — this data is then expanded in the index section, complete with contact information to encourage dialogue between practitioners. Photographs — donated by Dick and Ann Bancroft — were used as visual breaks and parallel the book's conception: the people of the world coming together as one — to empower the powerless. Originally set in English it has since been translated into Arabic, Croatian, Farsi, and French.
